About PassivePeon

Hey there friend! :)

Nice of you to pop by!

Well....why did you end up here?

Could it be that you are curious about what or who the heck is PassivePeon?

Hmmm...Right now, PassivePeon is a person.

Me to be exact!

I was born in 1988, in a working class family (albeit a loving one) and I grew up without a sense of financial security (my parents had to borrow money from me when I was a kid).

Oh yea, just in case you are wondering what's a working class family; The working class is popularly define as a group of people (often blue collar workers), earning an income just enough to survive, with low economic security.

But to me, as a child, the definition of being in a working class family means watching my parents toiling away at work, scrimping on themselves, just so that they are able to provide me with a childhood comparable with my peers!

Even so, there are occasions when we couldn't meet ends meet, and they will have to dig into my savings.

Just to clarify, I have my own personal saving since young due to my generous relatives who gave me monetary gifts every now and then.

Guess I was a really cute kid eh:p

And so, little me grew up happily, oblivious of our financial situation.

That was until I reached my teenage years, and noticed that hey, why do my friends possess much more stuff then me? And why are their houses bigger than mine too?

Oh my.. did Ben's dad just got him a bag that cost more than my entire month allowance?

At the same time, my parents seem to be struggling more at work, and our flow of income seems to be slowing...

One fine day, my computer broke down and I innocently requested for a new one.

My mum reacted by crying.

Okay, seems like I'm not getting that computer.

Fine. I'll try to get it fix.

Just stop crying mum :(

And that is when she revealed to me that we were completely broke due to her frequent casino visits. I have never seen my mum cried before and that moment was so heartbreaking. Guess the stress of being poor was too much to bear.

So that's the moment of awakening for me when I realised that my family was different from my friends.

What caused this misfortune to befall on my family?

Gambling. Poor financial literacy. Lousy monetary habits. Lack of financial planning.

In order not to have a repeat of this episode, I resolved to build a better future by being much more savvy financially than my parents (yes, I love them to bits but still, they are not quite a role model for financial planning).

At that point of time, my goal was simple enough.

I merely wanted to have enough money so that my family will never be in the lower tier of society again.

However, my goal evolved once I started working as I realised that I dreaded what I was doing, day in and day out. There was no passion for what I was doing everyday.

I wanted to work on my own terms and conditions, doing the things I really enjoy.

Alas! I couldn't because I am a slave to my paycheck, with bills to pay.

I want to be free from the shackles of my boring job, trading my precious time in return for those measly dollars every month. But unless I have other sources of income, I will forever be a slave to my bosses.

Hell no!

I do not wish for my future to be under the control of my bosses, working for their interest instead of mine!

Henceforth, my newfound goal is to create another source of recurring income, thereby allowing me to be financial independent from this system of modern slavery!

To accomplish this goal, I educated myself, read books and trawl the web ceaselessly to learn more about earning this magical pot of gold that fills up by itself regardless of the method.

Yes, I am open to any methods. As the saying goes, all roads lead to Rome. I am not fixated with any particular method as long as I earn this pot of gold ultimately.

And this blog will move me a step closer to this goal as it document my progress and condense everything I have learned about having more moolah!

However, PassivePeon can be more than that and not just a person!

PassivePeon can be an idea; a goal which everyone can strive for!

First up, do you have any idea what is a "Peon"?

Well, according to the dictionary's definition, a Peon can be describe as 'a person who does hard or boring work for very little money : a person who is not very important in a society or organization'.

Urmm. Guess that's referring to us then.

How about "Passive"? Any idea on why I choose that?

Well, I wanted another source of recurring income and somehow, "RecurringPeon" just does not sounds as cool as "PassivePeon".

Therefore, the idea of being a PassivePeon is to be someone who has escape from our capitalistic rat race despite having little resources to begin with.

Let me attempt to show it to you that it can be done!

For a start, maybe you will like to start from the beginning of my journey from HERE and see my latest progress over HERE.

Let's do it right now fellow peons! Good luck!

  1. Hi Passive Peoon,

I’ve been a long-time reader of your blog and in fact, I have been sharing your articles to my readers in my weekly newsletters! For example, I find that your latest write up on REITS is extremely useful and it allows one to invest objectively and not based on emotions. I certainly learn plenty from it! Thanks for sharing your criteria and scoring.

Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up about my new blog, http://heartlandboy.com. I’m looking for help to get word out about it, and if you think what I am writing is high-quality, it’d make my day if you could add my blog to your list of "My Blog List". Thanks!
    Cheers!

    1. Hi Alison!,

Thanks for reading. I'm humbled that my little obscure blog has managed to attract readers of your calibre👍🏻

I've been to your blog and I see that you have completed an initiation report on LMIR, which is one of the counters I'm holding;) I'm actually evaluating if I should continue to hold on to it and your report on it has certainly provided me with more food for thoughts.

Saw your post on cost savings for wedding too. Very useful indeed but alas! A lil late for me cause my wedding plans has been firm up. Nonetheless, I believe it will be very useful for "young" people like us😛

Anyway, I've added your blog to my list and I hope you'll continue to promote my blog too if you are of the opinion that the articles I put up continues to be of quality also.

Let's continue to keep in touch!

      Cheers!🤗
